Premium diesels have been used to reduce fuel consumption since the 1990’s. While expensive and lacking an Australian standard, premium diesels can clean fuel systems and deliver savings. Premium diesel is produced by blending standard diesel with a premium additive. 

Responding to the increasing demand for cost and emissions savings, TotalEnergies developed Excellium® Diesel, a next-generation premium diesel, with seven active components delivering a range of benefits including a 2% to 5% reduction in diesel consumption and carbon emissions. Responding to the growing demand for biodiesels and the 98% ‘well to wheel’ emissions they save, Total Energies developed HVO100 and more recently, ‘HVO30’. HVO100 is a 100% hydrotreated vegetable oil ‘drop-in diesel’ that replaces mineral diesel without any changes to the engines and with no reduction in performance. ‘HVO30’ is a version of HVO100 developed specifically for blending with mineral diesel, where costs need to be reduced.
